Frequently asked questions

The questions Washington homeowners ask most.

Consultations, permits, timelines, deck building, and how the process works — the stuff you'd ask before calling. If we missed your question, call 1-888-484-3132.

  • Do you charge for the consultation?

No. All consultations are free and held on-site, with a written proposal at the end — line-item scope, materials direction, and timeline.

  • What's your service area?

We build decks across the Puget Sound — Renton, Tacoma, and the surrounding King and Pierce county communities. The Service area page has the full picture.

  • How long does a typical deck project take?

It depends on scope. A ground-level deck build typically runs 3–6 weeks from signed proposal to final inspection. An above-grade or multi-level deck with structural engineering runs 6–10 weeks. We don't quote aspirational dates.

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Home Services Plus is a bonded and fully insured Washington contractor. WA L&I license verification and certificate of insurance available on request.

  • Do you handle permits?

Yes — in-house. We pull the local city and county permits and manage plan review directly. No third-party expediters, no surprise delays.

  • Who manages my project?

A dedicated project manager, with direct involvement from the owner. You'll have a real person who is on-site, gives regular updates, and stays reachable through the build.

  • How do I schedule a consultation?

Easiest is to call 1-888-484-3132 during business hours. You can also book a slot directly on our online calendar — pick a time that works and we'll confirm by phone before the visit.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

Check, credit card, ACH, and Zelle. Payment schedules are written into the proposal and tied to project milestones — not paid upfront.

  • Do you handle design, or just construction?

We handle deck design direction as part of the consultation — layout options, material choices, and what suits your yard and outdoor living goals. For complex structural changes we coordinate with an engineer, with the work integrated into one written proposal.

  • What happens if you find issues during demo?

We document the issue, price the fix as a written change order, and get your written approval before continuing. Nothing gets billed without your sign-off.

  • Will you need to shut down the yard during construction?

Typically yes for the active build phase — footings, framing, and decking work require clear access. We'll discuss the schedule and work sequence at the consultation and minimize disruption where possible.

  • Can you add a pergola or railing to an existing deck?

Yes — railings, pergolas, built-in seating, and lighting can be added to an existing deck as a standalone scope. We assess the existing structure and pull permits in-house where required.

  • What hours are you open?

Daily, 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. For after-hours requests, send a message through the contact form — we'll get back to you the next business day.
